This is a project about something greater than bricks and mortar, it's about our neighbours - our community. Peoples has spent over 50 years serving Hamilton with no barriers, no strings attached — just serving. From founding a daycare in 1974 to launching Ontario’s largest free youth sports league, the mission has always been simple: create spaces where people belong and thrive. The Greater Project builds on that legacy — expanding support for families, kids, and community through inclusive, purpose-built spaces designed for everyone. A safe place for adventure no matter the weather. Our soaring, sensory-friendly playground will invite kids to climb, slide, and discover with joy. Designed for every ability and every season, it’s a place where imagination can run free while parents relax just a heartbeat away at the new Café. The Community will be able to take advantage of:
Scheduled times for free "open community play".
Book the playground for events along with a Event Room.
Free bookings for those families that don't have the financial capacity.
Therapists and care-givers can incorporate the playground into their therapy sessions along with the sensory room and seperate meeting room.
The statistics clearly demonstrate a significant population of children in our community who experience sensory processing difficulties are often linked to conditions like ASD, ADHD, and broader mental health challenges. Sensory rooms are proven to be an effective tool for managing these challenges. Our goal is to build one of the best Sensory rooms in our community and make it available to as many children or adults as possible. We are consulting with professionals including Roy Joyce Children's Health Centre regarding best practices. Not only do we want to provide the facility, but with your help, we would like to ensure there are no financial barriers going forward for those that could benefit from the space.
The Therapists and Caregivers in the community will be able to book the sensory room, the adjoining meeting room, and even incorporate the playground as part of a session.
We will have trained internal staff members who will prepare the room, maintain equipment and even assist with supervision and training.
Leveraging the success and insights from the successful Peoples Community Sports, After-School, and other programs, we are expanding our reach to offer the community more free programs than ever before. The Greater Project seeks to raise both the capital for necessary infrastructure as well as, the operational funds to ensure all offerings remain accessible at no cost. Achieving this goal means we will have to grow our team. Therefore securing the sustained financial support is essential for both the development and ongoing operation of the programs.
All the programs will be offered to the community for free.
These new programs will address the diverse needs of our community, fostering growth in all aspects of their lives, and more programs for various ages.
From our inception, serving the community has been a pillar of our mission. We've always envisioned offering programs that are truly accessible to all, irrespective of their physical or financial circumstances. The reality, however, was a lack of adequate space and proper infrastructure. Now, with the addition of a more accessible space, we're transforming that vision into reality, allowing us to serve more individuals and a wider range of our community. Whether you want to sit and relax by yourself or sit with someone in your family or the community, you will be able to enjoy a coffee and have a good view of your children on the indoor playplace.

Event room is great for children's parties, or any community events. For those that don't have the ability to pay for the Event Room, financial assistance will be provided by Peoples and donors to The Greater Project.
Our current gym is by far the most used space by our community. Whether it is our free community programs, outside sports leagues, offering it to local charities, or Little Peoples - the current gym is at capacity. The plan is for a new, larger, double gym. Building the new gyms will be the last phase of The Greater Project, and will depend on community or corporate partnerships. If you know anyone that would like to be involved please contact us.
Provides the perfect space for all the new and expanded leagues and activities we have planned for the community, and designed for all ages - including volleyball, pickleball, training, and much more.
The gym will be a versatile space for community events, offering financial assistance to make bookings accessible to families from all income levels.
