LIttle Peoples - Here we Grow again

We can imagine something GREATER

Peoples has spent over 50 years serving Hamilton with no barriers, no strings attached. As an example, a pillar of our first Little Peoples charter in 1974 was to '...be able to offer childcare support to our community, especially to those parents who don't have the means'. This next phase is motivated by those same convictions. We want to serve more families and serve them better. With this project we will be able to offer quality childcare for 30 additional children in our community. Thank you for your assistance in helping others in greater ways. Beyond the 30 additional spaces for children, the features below are going to better serve our Little Peoples families for years to come.

New Two-Storey Indoor Playplace

A new safe space for adventure no matter the weather. Our soaring, sensory-friendly playground will invite kids to climb, slide, and discover with joy. This new space will offer children a great opportunity to engage and explore with others, participate in free play, and increase their gross motor development. Tap on 'Learn More' to see what makes up the new indoor playground, and why it matters.

With capacity for 80 children including unique spaces for toddlers and infants, all the children at Little Peoples will have time scheduled into their day to safely take advantage of the new slide, climbers, and sensory elements.

Little Peoples families will have the ability to book the Indoor Playground for birthday parties and other events outside of Childcare time. For those families that can't afford it, Little Peoples and donors will cover the cost.

New Sensory Room

Adjacent to the new children’s play area and the new accessible washroom, will be a new 400 sq. ft. Sensory Room. From our experience and conservative statistics, we estimate that 20-30 of the Little Peoples children in any given year could benefit from a Sensory Room. Through a continued partnership with Ron Joyce Children's Centre and other professionals, this room will become a hub where Therapists and caregivers can meet with families while the child is at Little Peoples. In conjunction with the sensory room, the playplace and separate private meeting room could be used by Therapists as well. Our hope is that we can be a part of helping our children have better emotional control and an increased capacity to engage with their environment - giving them a better ability to learn and have fun.

Will be integrated with the Little Peoples schedules for those children who could benefit from the room.

Can be booked by Therapists or Caregivers for any child at Little Peoples or their families, even outside of Little Peoples schedules.

Accessibility & Infrastructure

From our inception, serving the children has been a pillar of our mission. We've always envisioned offering programs that are truly accessible to all, irrespective of their physical or financial circumstances. The reality, however, was a lack of adequate space and proper infrastructure. Now, with the addition of more accessible spaces, we're transforming that vision into reality, allowing us to serve more children in new ways. Tap on 'Learn More' to see some details of this space and its enhanced accessibility that your support can make possible.

New Café & Event Room

The café and event room will provide parents and caregivers a chance to relax while they watch their children play. Whether having time on the playplace or while the children are working with a therapist in the sensory room, our hope is that the café provides Little Peoples parents a place for respite or to build relationships.

The café is open to parents and therapists to meet while having visibility to their children on the playplace, or they can book a separate and private meeting room.

New Programs

Our Peoples Community Sports program proudly serves many familiar faces, with 40% of our participating children coming from past or current Little Peoples families. This enduring connection means that when we envision new community programs, Little Peoples families are always on our mind. We're excited to launch numerous new programs for children and adults alike. Envision a scenario where a grandparent drops off their grandchild for a new art program and then chooses to stay and enjoy a lively pickleball game. Or consider the value of your children gaining practical skills like financial literacy. To turn these innovative program ideas into tangible, well-run offerings, and to ensure their continued success, we aim to allocate a portion of the Greater Project funds to secure a dedicated person to develop and operate these new programs.

Continue being part of Peoples family even when your child graduates with more free programs for all ages.

Free Programs that will target the whole person, from arts, to health, to finance and much more.

New and expanded Double Gym

Outside of the classroom, our current gym is by far the most used space by the Little Peoples children. In fact, it's the most used space by our entire community. Whether it is our free community programs, outside sports leagues, offering it to local charities, or Little Peoples - the current gym is at capacity. The plan is for a new, larger, double gym. Building the new gyms will be the last phase of The Greater Project, and will depend on parent, community or corporate partnerships. If you know anyone that would like to be involved please contact us.

Why it matters

More than a building... a place to belong

A legacy of serving the community since 1988

Peoples has spent over 50 years serving Hamilton with no barriers, no strings attached — just care. From founding a daycare in 1974 to launching Ontario’s largest free youth sports league, the mission has always been simple: create spaces where people belong. The Greater Project builds on that legacy — expanding support for families, kids, and community through inclusive, purpose-built spaces designed for everyone.

“This space will be a game-changer for our family. Having a place we can go that’s safe, fun, and free? It means everything.”
